Sandhya has two pieces of cloth – one 144 cm wide and the other 96 cm wide. She wants to cut both the cloth pieces into equal sized strips such that one is as wide as possible with none left over. What is the width she can cut ? How many pieces will she get in all ?

Width of strip = $	ext{HCF}(144, 96) = 48	ext{ cm}$. Strips from 144 cm cloth = $\frac{144}{48} = 3$. Strips from 96 cm cloth = $\frac{96}{48} = 2$. Total pieces = $3 + 2 = 5$.
