Using mirror formula: $$\frac{1}{f} = \frac{1}{v} + \frac{1}{u}$$ $$\frac{1}{15} = \frac{1}{-u/3} + \frac{1}{u} = -\frac{3}{u} + \frac{1}{u} = -\frac{2}{u}$$ $$u = -30	ext{ cm}$$ So, the object is placed **$30	ext{ cm}$ in front of the convex mirror**.
