Translocation and Stomata Mechanism

(A) Translocation in Plants:

• Food (sucrose) is actively loaded into the phloem tissue using energy from ATP.
• This increases osmotic pressure in phloem, causing water to move into it from xylem.
• High pressure moves the material through phloem to tissues with lower pressure as required.

(B) Mechanism of Stomatal Movement:

• Opening and closing of stomatal pores is regulated by guard cells.
• When water flows into guard cells, they swell, become turgid, and curve, causing the stomatal pore to open.
• When guard cells lose water, they shrink, become flaccid, and the pore closes.
